Students in Cohort 6 Need Your Support!
NCO BUILD--Building Up Individuals and Local Development (formerly NCO Building Homes, Building Lives) is a training program for low income and housing insecure residents of Lake County providing work experience and hard and soft skill development in the construction and building trades.
In this “earn and learn” 3-month course, participants receive hands on-education and mentorship directly from licensed general contractors and are compensated at $16/hour.
BUILD is designed to take on basic training on behalf of employers so they will have an incoming workforce that is skilled and ready. In turn, local residents have a steppingstone into their careers and will show up on the job equipped with the experience and confidence to be successful.
Throughout the course, NCO Case Managers work with the participants to address any other needs they may have to improve their economic, mental, and physical wellbeing.
At the end of the training, each graduating participant receives a letter of recommendation, a certificate of completion, job placement opportunities, and on-the-job equipment. Of the participants that have graduated from BUILD, 87% have secured stable employment within 3 months.
This program has 3 distinct goals:
-To Build Up Individuals and their skills, improve their economic situation and prepare them for success in a new field.
-To Build Up Local Development by contributing to affordable housing stock and improving the livability of Lake County.
-To help fill labor shortages in the local construction industry and beyond.
The next BUILD Cohort starts this fall. Your donation today will help ensure the success of the student-participants embarking on a new career.
